You may have seen fencing up and excavators at work at Clontarf Reserve and wondered what’s in store. It’s all part of a major upgrade of the popular picnic and swimming spot.
A new sandstone seawall and tiered seating as well as an accessible ramp and outdoor shower at the tidal pool are currently being built and should be finished by mid-year. Beautification works around Clonnys Café have been completed.
The work is part of stage one of the Clontarf Reserve Landscape Masterplan, which was the subject of extensive community engagement last year.
As part of stage one, work will also begin on an upgrade of the playground in the second half of this year and a refresh of the existing toilet facilities in the first half of next year.
Council made the decision to upgrade Clontarf Reserve to give it more capacity to meet the local community’s expectations.
The Masterplan delivers open space recreation improvements, while conserving environmental, cultural heritage and scenic values.
