Liverpool City Council will switch on the lights at seven of its sports grounds as a trial run, to help residents who wish to exercise once the workday is over.
The lights will be switched on from Monday 11 May.
Council has selected sports grounds across the Liverpool local government area that are both accessible and have good visibility, in order to cater for people who are required to work during the day and wish to exercise in the early evening.
Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said Council recognised the importance of residents keeping physically active while maintaining social distancing requirements.
“This is a great opportunity to access our open spaces to exercise in the evening,” Mayor Waller said.
“During this trial, we’ll be monitoring the grounds to ensure social distancing requirements are being observed.
“You can exercise alone, with members of your household or with one other person, but there are no gatherings or fitness classes permitted.”
The following sports grounds will have their lights turned on from 5pm-7.30pm on weekdays only starting on 1 May:
