The Wollondilly Library Children’s Team has been supporting the community during the COVID-19 crisis by delivering storytime sessions to local children and families through Facebook.

From 18 May, the library will also be delivering weekly Auslan Storytime sessions from 10am each Monday on their Facebook page. Auslan is the sign language of the deaf community in Australia.

Wollondilly Council staff members Maree Handley and Robyn Syphers will be teaming up as virtual storytellers to bring Auslan Storytime to the community. Maree will use Auslan to share the story while Robyn simultaneously reads in English.

Mayor Matthew Deeth said, “This is a fantastic example of council staff using their skills and doing something a bit different to make our services more inclusive.”

“It demonstrates how our staff have really come together during this difficult time to support the organisation and the community.”
