The asphalting of two streets within Kerang’s central business precinct are on track to be completed tonight.
The resurfacing of the length of Victoria Street in Kerang’s central business district and Scoresby Street between Fitzroy and Victoria streets began on Sunday, 10 May, with works occurring overnight.
“Motorists are already benefiting from the profiling out of the old asphalt and laying of new asphalt at the intersection of Fitzroy and Scoresby streets, as well as the asphalting of Scoresby and Victoria streets,” Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.
“Works will occur from 6pm tonight to upgrade the intersection of Scoresby and Victoria streets, completing a project that began in late February but was delayed after Kerang received the average March rainfall in the space of 24 hours.”
The Kerang CBD roadworks are part of Council’s annual sealed road maintenance program, and is the first time works of this magnitude have occurred in the Kerang CBD since the rejuvenation of Victoria Square in 2017-2018.
“Workers have placed sand over the paved section of Victoria Street during these works to protect the paving whilst the resurfacing works occurred, with this sand to be removed once the project is complete,” Mr O’Reilly said.
Line marking works – including the marking of car parking spaces - will occur during afternoons later this week.
“These works will be completed in stages, but will mean that parking will be limited whilst these lines are marked,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“Council thanks motorists, residents and business owners for their patience as these important works are undertaken.”
