Council has not objected to a proposal to remove a section of the Cairns Railway, from Redlynch to Crooked Creek Bridge, from the Queensland Heritage Register.
Last month, an application was submitted to the Department of Environment and Science proposing the removal of this section of the Cairns Railway.
The new heritage boundary will exclude modern buildings, carparks and stockpile areas currently used by Queensland Rail, but preserves the heritage listing of significant elements, including the Redlynch Station building and gardens, the earth loading bank (c.1943) and the spur line (c.1887). Evidence of the turning triangle will remain in the new heritage boundary.
