Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) will re-open playgrounds, skate parks, outdoor gyms and barbecue areas from 16 May 2020 in line with the Queensland Government’s Roadmap to Easing COVID-19 restrictions.

TRC Mayor Paul Antonio said the easing of restrictions was an acknowledgement of the commitment of the community to abiding by State and Federal Government public health directions.

“The re-opening of our playgrounds, skate parks, outdoor gyms and barbecue areas is a step towards the return to normality,” Mayor Antonio said.

“Users will still need to adhere to relevant Queensland Health requirements with a maximum gathering of ten persons permitted under Stage One easing of restrictions.

“Despite COVID-19 closures, Council parks have remained open and continue to be an excellent outlet for a walk, a picnic or to kick a football with members of your household.

“We thank the community for their continued patience during this unique time.

“Our number one priority during this challenging time is the health and wellbeing of our community and staff.

“We would ask that the community continue to follow hygiene guidelines, whether at home or attending public spaces.

“Precautions include washing your hands or using hand sanitiser, covering your mouth when coughing or sneezing and disposing of tissues properly, practising social distancing and avoiding physical contact, such as shaking hands.

“I would also remind everyone to refer to the information on updated restrictions, particularly guidelines on gatherings, provided by the State Government’s lead agency Queensland Health, during this pandemic.
