Gympie Regional Council is calling on community groups and sporting clubs to have their say on how Council can support them in response to COVID-19.

By sharing how COVID-19 restrictions have impacted club’s activities, sporting seasons and financial commitments, groups can help shape Council’s Community Grants program, community training sessions and advice to other tiers of government about what is needed in our region.

Community Development Portfolio Councillor Dolly Jensen says our community organisations and sporting clubs perform vital roles in our region, and they are doing it tough and need our support.

“Our local groups are run by hardworking volunteers that dedicate their time to make sure our kids can play sport, that people can enjoy the hobbies they love and that we can gather in our community halls.

"We need to know how we can support volunteer groups get through COVID-19 so these important activities can continue into the future.“

“I encourage all community groups affected by COVID-19 to complete this questionnaire so that Council can develop grants programs and support to help clubs get back on their feet.”

"With next week marking National Volunteer Week from 18- 24 May, Council wants to give hope and recognition to volunteers in our region."

“We'd like to give a big thank you to the volunteers who are still able to serve during COVID-19 and another to all those volunteers who are staying home and safe, even though they are super keen to return to their regular volunteering activities,” she said.
