COVID-19
Residents and ratepayers will be aware that the NSW Government is removing restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The lifting of these restrictions has implications for some Council facilities and services.
Council playgrounds and parks are now open; however, caution needs to be exercised when using these facilities. Council does not sanitise this equipment so please, when using this equipment take care of your own personal hygiene and continue to adhere to social distancing.
Council’s library remains closed and the caravan parks are operating under some restrictions. It is anticipated that they will be fully operational in the near future.
I am pleased with how the community of Carrathool Shire has dealt with the difficulties during this time. I believe people have accepted and are aware of the need for social distancing and hand hygiene. These practises are to continue even though some restrictions are being eased.
Our businesses within the shire have adapted over the last few weeks, however it has been and will continue to be a difficult financial time for them. Please continue to support our businesses and shop locally.
During this time Council has tried to keep its operations as normal as possible. Staff have continued to provide all essential services with appropriate precautions in place.
Thank you to all the community for your efforts during this unusual time, to date we have not recorded any cases of COVID-19. As restrictions are lifted please continue your efforts and remain vigilant.
Laurence Athol Roberts
The funeral was held last week of Athol Roberts. Athol was elected to Council’s A riding in 1963, was elected Deputy Mayor in 1969 and served as Mayor of Carrathool Shire from 1983-2004. During this time Athol was not only a Carrathool Shire Councillor, he sat on many committees including Australian Wheatgrowers, Barley Committee and NSW Farmers Association.
Athol was also an integral part of the Goolgowi community, again serving on many clubs and associations, often as president.
On behalf of the Councillors I would like to extend our sincere condolences at this time.
Darryl Jardine
