Rangers respond to influx of animal surrenders and adoptions

Armidale Animal Companion Shelter is experiencing some of its busiest days, as Council Rangers respond to an influx of animal surrenders and adoptions.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, Council has had an increasing number of people bringing surrendered animals into its Shelter. In turn, the team at the shelter has been particularly busy having to find new homes for the felines and canines.

Armidale Regional Council’s Rangers Team Leader, Ian Chetcuti, said the Shelter had experienced its busiest days in a very long time.

“We’re receiving many calls through our customer service centre and animal lovers are coming from far and wide to adopt a furry friend,” Mr Chetcuti said.

“Last week, the Shelter re-housed six cats and one dog in a single day. It’s great to see so many people stepping up to the challenge and take responsibility of looking after these animals.”

Since the start of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the shelter has rehomed 32 dogs and 21 cats.
