Join Our Online Activities To Maintain Community Connections

Wyndham City is hosting online cooking, entertainment and gardening tutorials to keep the community connected and celebrate our blend of cultures.

Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Josh Gilligan said the City is asking residents to share their favourite family recipes from their home countries and stories online as part of a community cookbook for Wyndham.

“The kitchen is a place where families and friends come together to share food, conversation, and kindness and this brings us together as a community,” Cr Gilligan said.

“So, while we may not be able to host or attend large dinner parties, we can gather around the kitchen table in virtual sense, as we share our recipes and family stories with one another. The In the Kitchen with Wyndham project is also a celebration of our region’s rich cultural diversity and the culinary traditions that come with that.”

“On our Wyndham Together website you can browse through the growing list of recipes, submit your own or cook along with the team from Encore Events Centre with free cooking tutorials.”  

“If you want to get your hands dirty and attract native wildlife to your garden, the Habitat Heroes gardening tutorials released every Wednesday will offer you top tips on plant species and unusual ideas such as creating your own frog bog.”

The gardening videos are hosted by Wyndham gardener, Chiara Perri, who offers advice on what native plants are best for Wyndham gardens that also help native birds and animals to move safely across our highly urbanised landscape.

On Thursdays, residents can also tune into our Wyndham Rocks Way out West lunchtime groove showcasing some of Wyndham’s finest musicians and performers.

Cr Gilligan said the weekly recordings were an opportunity for residents to appreciate and support new and established Wyndham artists, with an original song featured each week on Experience Wyndham on Facebook and Instagram pages.

“It also gives provides work for local performers, whose industry was hard hit by Covid-19 restrictions,” Cr Gilligan said.
