The Town of Cambridge will trial the relocation of existing beach-side bins to beach access way entry points this winter.
The Town currently manages 15 beach paths which enable visitors to access the beach.
Each path is serviced with a bin at the road and another at the beach end.
The bins on the beach will be re-positioned to the beach entry points.
The relocation of the bins will enable a more cost effective and practical solution to their ongoing servicing.
As all visitors leaving the beach are required to exit through one of these access ways, they will also pass by the bins on the road reserve, thus enabling them to deposit rubbish responsibly.
During the trial the Town will monitor the quantity of rubbish that may be discarded on the beach due to the relocation of the bins and assess the need to return these bins to the beach-side location the following winter.
Signage will be erected (as below) at each entrance encouraging beach visitors to dispose of litter responsibly in the bins provided.
