Each year, in the lead up to national Reconciliation Week, Council conducts a flag raising ceremony to recognise the importance of coming together to promote reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Due to COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, the ceremony will not take place this year. Instead, this week Bayside Mayor, Cr Clarke Martin joined with Elder – Arweet Carolyn Briggs AM as well as Dr Joseph Toscano and Joshua Toscano of the Ellen Jose Memorial Foundation to perform the flag raising ceremony and announce the 2020 winners of the Ellen Jose Reconciliation Award for Bayside primary and secondary school students.
You can view the ceremony here. Make sure you stay til the end to see the winners.
The prize winners will be notified in coming days. Thank you to everyone who entered.
