Remain vigilant to Coronavirus

Gannawarra Shire Council urges the community to remain vigilant to the risk of Coronavirus as restrictions begin to ease.

While strict restrictions have been successful in reducing the spread so far, as restrictions start to ease and testing continues, the number of local Coronavirus cases is likely to also increase.

“We all need to be extra vigilant to protect ourselves and those around us,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“The virus is spread by droplets, so maintaining a physical distance of 1.5 metres between yourselves and others wherever possible reduces the risk, as does good handwashing and practicing cough and sneeze etiquette.

“Most importantly, download the COVIDsafe App and if you are even the slightest bit unwell, please remain at home and seek a Coronavirus test.”

Council is aware that there was a positive test over the weekend for Gannawarra Shire listed as part of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Coronavirus data for Victoria.

“Councils are not provided with information on specific cases,” Mayor Learmonth said.

“I urge residents across the Gannawarra to remain vigilant but to also continue to show each other empathy, support and care.

“Together, we can help to reduce the spread and help to protect ourselves and others.”

Council will continue to keep residents informed of information on services and programs as restrictions ease.
