More than child’s play at Sandy Place

There’ll be something for everyone at the Long Beach recreation park.

Work on new park facilities at Sandy Place Reserve begins on Monday 1 June, with an exciting design and activity spaces for the whole family. Eurobodalla Council’s recreation team have worked closely with residents and professional playground designers to formulate the facility.

The park will include a half-court with multi-sport goal net – perfect for a friendly game of basketball, soccer or hockey – and street workout equipment for those keen to develop their fitness. For young adventurers, the new treehouse and playground has slides, a balance-bridge, climbing net and swings, and for the littlies there’s interactive panels under the treehouse, a double springer and toddler swing.

A track for scooters, skateboards and other wheelies will encompass the area, with some added features for tricks.

Situated in the south west of the reserve, the recreation park will wrap around an existing undercover picnic table, leaving plenty of open space for running around or kicking a footy. A bubbler will be installed and footpath access from the carpark to the toilets included.

The facility is expected to be finished early to mid-July, weather dependent. Council’s recreation and sustainability teams will join with locals to landscape the finished facility, ensuring the new park and equipment complements the natural beachside surrounding.

Once the Sandy Place Reserve recreation park is complete, the existing playground at Higgins Park will be removed and that area restored to community green space.
