New traffic signals to improve school safety at Woree

Published: 27 May 2020

Council is hoping to secure $500,000 in government funding to install traffic signals and improve safety for schoolchildren at two Woree schools.

The installation of traffic signals at the Windarra Street and Rigg Street intersection, located near the Woree State School and Woree State High School, is expected to alleviate congestion and road safety issues during school drop off and pick times.

The intersection is about 40 metres from the neighbouring schools’ “Stop Drop and Go” entrance, which causes safety issues with turning traffic and queuing through the zebra crossing.

The project is estimated to cost $2.95 million. Council has allocated $1.5 million of the 2019/20 - 2023/24 Roads to Recovery funding to this project is now seeking $500,000 from State Government’s School Transport Infrastructure Program.
