Amazon is coming to Liverpool, bringing local jobs to its newly-announced fulfilment centre in Moorebank.

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said Amazon’s arrival in Liverpool was a boon for South West Sydney.

“We are thrilled to welcome Amazon’s fulfilment centre to Moorebank. This is a win for our local community and we look forward to having great jobs for people close to where they live,” Mayor Waller said.

“We are very excited that Amazon is committed to local jobs and to being part of our community. They are a company with a great corporate reputation internationally and we are delighted to be an integral part of their Australian journey.”

Amazon Australia Operations Director Robert Bruce said: “We are thrilled to be establishing our next fulfilment centre in Moorebank and working with incredible people in the local community of South West Sydney.”

Already at the nexus of the M5, M7 and Hume Highway, Liverpool will soon be connected to the nation’s freight rail lines through the Moorebank Intermodal Terminal and to the world through Western Sydney Airport.

Mayor Waller said Liverpool was becoming a magnet for global logistics firms, with Toll Group opening its $160 million retail and eCommerce fulfilment centre earlier this year and DB Schenker opening its $50 million facility late last year.

“In the last 18 months we’ve seen transport and logistics take off in Liverpool,” Mayor Waller said.

“During that time, we’ve had six major transport and logistics companies open their doors in Liverpool, with three more under development.

“That’s $560 million worth of development from this sector in just a year-and-a-half. Another $40 million worth is under assessment with our planners.

“Our latest figures from corporate research company Urbis tell us the Transport and Logistics sector contributes $1.3 billion to Liverpool’s Gross Regional Product.

“At the time of the 2016 Census, the Transport and Logistics sector employed 6994 people. That number jumped to 7726 by December 2017.

“The construction of WSA will add another major focal point for national and international connectivity.”
