The Australian Government has committed $500 million to the Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCI Program) to support jobs, businesses and the resilience of local economies.
From 1 July 2020, councils will be able to access funding to support delivery of priority local road and community infrastructure projects. The Shire of York will be eligible for $433,684.
Shire of York CEO Chris Linnell said “the extra funding is greatly appreciated as it will assist funding additional local road and community infrastructure projects to be delivered for York in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Shire staff are currently working on a list of eligible, but currently unfunded, projects for consideration in the 2020/21 budget”.
Shire President Cr Denese Smythe says “on behalf of the Council I would like to express our gratitude to the Federal Government for supporting local communities to bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic”.
Funding is available for local road and community infrastructure projects that involve the construction, maintenance and/or improvements to council-owned assets (including natural assets) that are generally accessible to the public. Councils need to submit applications for their allocated funding, which will be available from July 1.
