Gannawarra Shire Council has welcomed the allocation of an extra $1.3 million in Federal Government funding to assist with the delivery of local road and community infrastructure projects.
Council will receive $1,317,955 from the government’s $500 million Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, developed to support local jobs and the resilience of local economies to help communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Gannawarra Shire Council thanks the Federal Government for the allocation of this funding and its continued support of Council’s projects,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.
“Council has a strong positive relationship with both the Federal and State governments and this additional grant funding is another recent example of their support for the Gannawarra. I trust that our ongoing success in securing significant grant funding will help build hope and confidence across our communities.
“This funding builds on successful grant applications for many projects underway, ranging from bridge replacement works and waterfront redevelopments, as well as the recent announcement of State Government support for the Cohuna CBD and Waterfront Development and expansion of the Tate Drive Industrial Estate at Kerang.”
The funding will be available to use from 1 July 2020, with projects earmarked to benefit from this support to be completed by 30 June 2021.
“Like the Drought Communities Programme – Extension funding process, Council needs to select projects that will benefit from this funding in accord with the funding guidelines,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“Council looks forward to announcing which projects will benefit from this funding once approval is received.”
