City of Maroondah ratepayers who are paying their rates by instalments are reminded that the fourth instalment of their payment plan is due by 31 May 2020.

Mayor of Maroondah, Councillor Mike Symon, said to support members of the community currently experiencing financial hardship, Council would be waiving interest on outstanding rates until 30 June 2020.

“Council understands the stress that many members of the community are currently experiencing due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Council has therefore placed a hold on all penalty interest charged to rates until at least 30 June 2020 and will not undertake any rate recovery actions,” Cr Symon said.

The relief measures will apply to all infringement payments such as parking, local laws and planning.

“It is hoped this support measure will provide some relief to the community and give people more time to get back on their feet without the added worry of further financial pressures,” Cr Symon said.

“Council will continue to monitor changes in the economy due to the coronavirus and, if necessary, may revise these options to respond to community needs,” he said.
