Key strategic documents on exhibition

29 May 2020

Bega Valley Shire Council is again seeking feedback from the community on several key strategic planning documents.

In accordance with the Integrated Planning and Reporting (IP&R) Framework, Council has prepared revised strategic planning documents for 2020-2021. These include the draft revised Delivery Program 2017-2021; the draft Operational Plan 2020-2021, including Council’s Budget and Revenue Policy; and the draft Fees and Charges for 2020-2021.

Councillors recently resolved to place these on public exhibition for a period of 28 days.

Draft IP&R documents were previously the subject of an extended exhibition period over December and January, however in light of the bushfire crisis, Councillors decided not to pursue a Special Rate Variation to fund the Shire’s pools and as a direct result all these strategic documents needed to be revisited to reflect this.

Bega Valley Shire Council Mayor, Cr Sharon Tapscott, said the Delivery Program was previously altered in 2018 due to the impact of Tathra and District and Yankees Gap Bushfires and the unprecedented level of funding coming through the State Government; and the documents have now been further amended and re-focused following the Black Summer Bushfires, flooding and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“In these challenging and unprecedented times, we continue to focus on what matters most - our people - and we are committed to doing everything we can to support the community as we move forward,” Cr Tapscott said.

“Along with the delivery of support services for those impacted in the fires and bushfire recovery funded projects; there are many other key projects planned for 2020-21 including the development of an Affordable Housing Strategy and new Disability Inclusion Action Plan and the delivery of water treatment plants servicing the Brogo-Bermagui and Bega-Tathra supplies.

“I am personally very keen to hear again from the community on the direction we are taking for next financial year.”

To view the documents head to www.begavalley.nsw.gov.au/haveyoursay. Copies will also be available in the Bega office and Shire libraries when these facilities re-open (pending State Government advice).

Submissions regarding the draft documents can be made until Thursday, 18 June 2020, via Council’s Have Your Say page (see link above), via email at [email protected] , or by post to PO Box 492, Bega NSW 2550.
