WENDY TUCKERMAN: Local showgrounds get stimulus upgrades

Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman announced eight local showgrounds will benefit from $430,196 in funding as part of the NSW Government COVID-19 stimulus package.
Mrs Tuckerman said Boorowa, Crookwell, Gunning, Moss Vale, Robertson, Moss Vale, Rye Park and Yass showgrounds will receive funding to upgrade and improve the safety, use and condition of their infrastructure and support jobs in the local economy.
“When COVID-19 hit it forced the postponement or cancellation of agricultural shows and many community activities that showgrounds rely on for their income,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
“This investment by the NSW Government will provide a boost for our local showgrounds and the communities they serve by supporting tradies and suppliers with work and strengthening our showground infrastructure for the future.”
Upgrades in the local area will include:
$151,800 for Boorowa Showground for road sealing work, upgrades to change rooms and amenities, and irrigation for the main arena and parade ring. $151,185 for Crookwell Showground to upgrade its kitchen and shower block. $45,593 for Gunning Showground to upgrade its hall with heating and cooling systems, floor sanding and sealing and a new switchboard. $20,212 for Robertson Showground to paint its pavilion dining room and seal and paint the pavilion’s concrete floor. $38,171 for Yass Showground to install seating at its wood-chopping grandstand, main arena, food site and dressage and yard dog areas. $17,235 for Moss Vale Showground to repair its grandstand. $6,000 for Rye Park Showground to install reverse cycle air conditioning.Minister for Water, Property and Housing Melinda Pavey said this funding is part of $25 million that will be spent over two years to improve showgrounds across the State.“$12.5 million is being allocated immediately to get projects underway this financial year under the NSW Government’s COVID-19 Stimulus Package,” Mrs Pavey said.
“We will then follow through by allocating another $12.5 million for more work across showgrounds to be announced next financial year.”
The eight local showgrounds would be among 137 across the State that will benefit from the first tranche of funding.
“Showgrounds today are multi-use facilities for a range of activities from agricultural shows, rodeos and horse clubs to farmers markets, festivals, camping, men’s sheds, and sport and cultural events,” Mrs Pavey said.
“Our showgrounds are at the heart of communities including serving as evacuation centres during bushfire and flood so we want to keep them in good shape.”
