Ageing Timbarra Road Bridge replaced

The replacement of Timbarra Road Bridge number 1 has given certainty of access to people who live and work in the Buchan area.
The project was a priority for East Gippsland Shire Council as the bridge is on the area’s key access route.
The original bridge was ageing and had a load limit of 25 tonnes. Made of timber, the bridge was at risk of damage during floods and fires.
The new bridge, made of reinforced concrete and steel, has a design life of 100 years.
It will have lower maintenance costs and will be better able to maintain access following natural disasters.
The 51-metre, four-span bridge was completed in March. This was slightly behind schedule due to works being postponed during the bushfire response.
The $700,000 project was completed by East Gippsland contractor Jarvis Norwood Constructions. The Australian Government’s Bridge Renewal Programme contributed $350,000 with council funding the remainder.
