This month, Parks Victoria is implementing changes to some boating and swimming zones to improve safety for users of the near shore zones within Port Phillip and Western Port.

These changes follow the 2009 Boating Zone Review and stakeholder consultation conducted in 2016-17 by Parks Victoria. The new zones will be in place by the end of June 2020 to avoid the peak boating and swimming season.

In Bayside, the border of the existing Kiteboarding, Shared 5 Knot and Vessel Prohibited – Swimming Only zones at Hampton Beach will be realigned by Parks Victoria.

Four redundant yellow Aids to Navigation (AtoN) will be removed and replaced with five new AtoNs to mark the new boundaries of each changed zone. New signs will also be installed on the foreshore to provide a visual reference point of each zone’s new boundary.
