Council is improving accessibility and safety on the Brighton Beach section of the Bay Trail while the beach is quieter in June and July.
Realigning the Bay Trail at the former Tramway underpass will improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians, as well as access to the main beach. This is one of many accessibility improvements currently underway between Brighton Beach and Hampton Beach.
Other improvements include:
More accessible parking bays at Brighton Beach New beachside bike racks New and improved beach showers and a drinking fountain at Hampton Life Saving Club.During works, Council will restrict the use of a small number of parking spaces in the South Road Beach Carpark (B5), opposite the Brighton Beach Oval and train station. This is to enable the construction of two accessible parking bays.
Over at Hampton Beach, access to the beach via the staircase near the Life Saving Club may be restricted at times during works to install beach showers, if required for public safety.
These works are part of Council’s Brighton Beach to Ferdinando Gardens Masterplan and will improve recreational facilities for the community while ensuring that Bayside’s beautiful foreshore can continue to be safely enjoyed by all.
