Work will soon begin on a new marine life themed mural that will bring vibrancy to Seaview Village and deter graffitists, helping Bayside say goodbye to graffiti for good.

Neighbourhood Watch Beaumaris (NHW) Graffiti Busters supported by Bayside City Council and Citywide, have joined forces with local artist Daiana Ingleton to install the public artwork that will wrap around the Seaview Village toilet block.

Intended to offer an artistic underwater snapshot of Ricketts Point Marine life, the mural is part of Council’s work alongside NHW Graffiti Busters to mitigate graffiti around Bayside while enhancing the streetscape and local amenity.

20 year-old local artist Daiana Ingleton is excited to be undertaking the project and bringing Bayside’s unique marine environment to life through art piece to help people feel more connected to their surroundings.

“NHW approached me with the idea of a marine life themed mural and instead of doing something random I wanted to find out what you can actually find in the waters close to us,” said Daiana.

“I went on a family vacation and [because of research for the mural], I saw seaweed on the sand and I knew exactly what species it was. I felt like I was getting closer to nature, understanding the environment and feeling more connected to my surroundings.”

Bayside City Council’s Civil Infrastructure & Open Space contractor Citywide is supplying the paint material and will implement any traffic management as necessary.  NHW Graffiti Busters are funding the artwork.

“I’m really lucky to work with Neighbourhood Watch. We have a great relationship and all the volunteers work so hard to locate walls that are getting graffiti’d and get them turned into art,” said Daiana.

The installation will take approximately two weeks and is expected to have little impact on access to the foreshore and traffic management.
