Project Restart Freo gains momentum as more facilities reopen

The City of Fremantle has outlined its plan to reopen facilities and services following the further easing of the state government’s COVID-19 restrictions.
In line with the state government’s announcement last week on Phase 3 of the roadmap to ease COVID-19 restrictions in WA, playgrounds, skate parks and outdoor gym equipment are permitted to be used from Saturday 6 June.
The Fremantle Recycling Centre will also be open again from 12noon on Friday 12 June.
From Monday 15 June a number of other City facilities will reopen including Fremantle Arts Centre, Fremantle Visitors Centre, The Meeting Place, the Walyalup Cultural Centre and the Wanjoo Lounge for seniors at the library.
Fremantle Leisure Centre and Samson Recreation Centre are scheduled to reopen on Thursday 18 June. The Moores Building of Contemporary Art will reopen on Monday 29 June.
Fremantle Mayor Brad Pettitt said it was exciting to have some certainty about when City facilities would reopen.
“We know that people really love our facilities like the Arts Centre and the Leisure Centre and have really missed them during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Mayor Pettitt said.
“Unfortunately it’s not possible to open up all of our facilities straight away because there is some prep work that needs to be done to ensure we have the physical distancing and cleaning regimes in place to ensure the safety of our community and staff.
“We said from the beginning that once COVID-19 was behind us we would bring all staff back as soon as we possibly could, so it’s great to now have a clear pathway towards the reopening our facilities and to give some certainty to our community.”
Community facilities including Sullivan Hall, North Fremantle Community Centre and Fremantle Town Hall are also back open from 15 June and available for public bookings.
Council meetings will return to North Fremantle Community Centre and be open to the public from 1 July.
