665 trees and shrubs supplied by the Bayside Community Nursery will be planted in 11 Bayside schools as part of a Bayside Climate Crisis Action Group (BCCAG) initiative funded by the Bayside City Council Sustainable Environments Grant 2019/20 program.
The project aims to increase tree canopy cover in Bayside, and provide opportunity for students to learn about biodiversity and climate, and connect with nature.
Two schools, Sandringham East Primary and Elsternwick Primary, accepted their first plant deliveries on Monday 18 May with planting days to be organised as students return.
The other nine Bayside schools involved in the project are still considering their planting day timings as schools cope with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the staged return of students.
