Wollondilly Council has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Illuminate Festival of Art & Light scheduled for September, but will continue to support local artists through two art exhibitions.

Council has been guided by the current COVID-19 restrictions and the unlikely lifting of restrictions on mass gatherings in time for the festival, which attracted over 20,000 people in 2019.

Mayor Matthew Deeth said, “This has been a very difficult decision given the significance of the event in supporting our local businesses, artists, musicians and performers.”

“For the past five years, Illuminate Wollondilly has brought crowds to Picton to enjoy awe-inspiring lighting projects, art exhibitions, food stalls, rides and musical entertainment. It will certainly be missed this year.”

Although the festival won’t run in 2020, Council will be continuing to support local artists by hosting two art exhibitions in the Old Picton Post Office.

The Wollondilly Arts Group exhibition will be held from 16-19 September with the addition of an artisan markets on 19 September.

The annual Waste to Art competition will be run at the Post Office from 28 September to 2 October 2020. Cash prizes will be offered to encourage local artists to participate in both events.

Illuminate 2021 has been scheduled for Saturday 18 September 2021 and will incorporate some new and exciting activities including a Long Table Dinner, a Jazz and Swing Afternoon, Lantern Installation and much more.
