The stage is set for the region’s musical talents with Western Downs Regional Council announcing the finalists of its new initiative ‘Groovin’ from the Garage – The Originals’.

Local musicians were invited to submit a video of themselves performing an original, unpublished song for the chance to be featured on Council’s online platforms and take home some great prizes.

Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said she was thrilled to see the great uptake of the program by the community.

“Council received such a positive response to this initiative, receiving 23 submissions from a variety of artists right across the region,” Cr Maguire said.

“This competition was introduced during the time of restrictions as a way of offering our local musicians a platform to express their creativity which was difficult to do at the time.

“We have a great deal of talent in our region and this program has given us the opportunity to share that with the wider community as well as provide some uplifting entertainment during uncertain times.

“Community members are now invited to help decide the competition winners by viewing the finalist’s submissions on Council’s community events Facebook platform ‘Western Downs Invites You’ and voting for their favourite.”

The finalists of the first ever ‘Groovin’ from the Garage – The Originals’ competition are: • Ann Fletcher – ‘Simple Little Buttons’ (Dalby) • Ben Slater – ‘So Long, July’ (Drillham) • Cheryls Anderson – ‘Waiting for Apocalypse’ (Dalby) • Christine Teddy – ‘Ten Years On’ (Tara) • Jay Purcival – ‘Void of Emotion’ (Jandowae) • Kadi Lillis – ‘One Day Closer to Rain’ (Dalby) • Maurie Marion – ‘Old Mate’ (Tara) • Mrs Klaud.e (Claudia Ehlers) – ‘Guilty Get No Sleep’ (Chinchilla) • Natalie Scotney – ‘Broken Mind’ (Dulacca) • Olivia Gilmour – ‘Trapped’ (Miles) • Sebastian Curtis – ‘The Shifting Waltz’ (Dalby) • Yvette Bracefield – ‘Chinchilla Lullaby’ (Chinchilla) • Ziyra Marchant – ‘Gypsy Rd’ (Dalby)
