Kids of Allambie Heights are celebrating after Council officially opened a new playground at the local oval.

The playground was initially identified in 2015 as a possible location to help contribute to a diverse range of open space and recreational facilities in the family-friendly suburb, with the facility just steps from the local school, shops, tennis courts and Scout Hall.

Construction on the project began in March 2020 before it was completed late last month. The Northern Beaches community had extensive input on the project, with the playground on public consultation from September 2018 and then between May-August 2019.

The playground, which sits nestled amongst a natural bush setting, boasts multiple features including a hill slide, three swings, a see-saw and a climbing frame. The materials used include natural woods and muted colours to blend with the surrounds. Teens have also been catered for, with the installation of a multi-sport half-court for basketball and futsal.

In addition, Council has future plans to construct a path allowing easier access to the playground from neighbouring Allambie Rd and a safe place for younger children to ride scooters and bikes.

Further exciting community playground projects have been allocated by Council for Manly Dam, Avalon’s Dunbar Park and Birdwood Park at Narrabeen.
