Greater Dandenong Council will benefit from Wind Farm Energy

The City of Greater Dandenong will now have guaranteed access to renewable energy for the next decade thanks to a new agreement between Alinta Energy and Procurement Australia.
Under the agreement, the Bald Hills Wind Farm in Gippsland, an accredited GreenPower generator, will supply 100 per cent clean electricity to all public lighting in Greater Dandenong.
Greater Dandenong is one of 13 Victorian Councils and one Victorian Government Authority, that will benefit from the agreement, which will begin on 1 July 2020.
The 10-year Power Purchase Agreement builds on the National GreenPower Accreditation Program which ensures Council’s voluntary commitments are matched with renewable energy that is added to the grid on Council’s behalf.
Greater Dandenong Mayor Councillor Jim Memeti welcomed the agreement.
“This agreement brings Council some certainty for the next 10 years and reinforces Greater Dandenong’s commitment to responding to the Climate and Ecological Emergency it declared in January this year.”
“By getting electricity from renewable energy sources, instead of coal-fired power, we are not only tackling climate change head on, but we are also ensuring value for money.”
Greater Dandenong Council is committed to working towards being a nett zero carbon city by 2040 and is currently preparing its draft Climate Change Strategy and Acton Plan which it hopes to finalise later this year.
