A 2km shared pathway between South Western Highway and Harvey Dam is nearing completion.
Before this pathway existed cyclists and pedestrians were forced to walk or ride on the winding narrow road which was unsafe.
Works to construct a 2.5m wide red concrete path started early this year and has continued to Harvey Dam, including a road crossing.
The middle of the pathway is currently under construction. The road has been widened to ensure the pathway is safe, and once complete will have a safety barrier and kerbing.
In October 2017, after the funding application for $225,000, to the Department of Transport’s ‘WA Bicycle Network Grants Program, was approved for the design and construction of the Weir Road project things started to get underway.
The grants program is a State funding initiative administered by the Department of Transport to assist local governments in both Metropolitan and Regional WA with the planning and implementation of bicycle networks.
