City of Swan will commit $64,000 in grants to seventeen community organisations for critical work they are delivering in the response and recovery to COVID-19.
The City of Swan launched the new COVID-19 Community Response and Relief Grants Scheme in May for essential solutions that support local resilience and community wellbeing during, through and beyond COVID-19 restrictions.
City of Swan Mayor Kevin Bailey said the grant pool was increased by $14,000 to fund additional projects after the City received a high volume of applications.
"We received 55 applications totalling a combined requested amount of $244,019, so it was very competitive and challenging to narrow down," he said.
"It will be long road to recovery from this pandemic, and the City will continue to work closely with community organisations and key government agencies to recognise, understand and action the support needed."
Projects funded range from care and food packages, targeted support for seniors, women and families, mental health programs and resources for rough sleepers and street present community including free legal, financial, tenancy and disability services.
The latest economic data commissioned by the City of Swan provides key insights into the impact of COVID-19, including local jobs forecast to fall by 9.2% by end of June, equating to a fall of 6,414 local jobs.
Gross Regional Product (GRP) is also forecast to fall by -12.5% in the same period, higher than the state average.
