Our Maroondah Occasional Care service is still open to support families in Maroondah.

The Australian Government recently announced that parents who are currently sending their children to child care will be able to do so for free until 12 July 2020, this is to enable children to continue to attend their education and care service while parents are working or studying during the COVID-19 pandemic. Monday 13 July will also see the return of Child Care Subsidy (CSS) where eligible families can receive child care at a reduced rate.

Maroondah Occasional Care is a high-quality, Council-run child care service that provides that important flexibility families sometimes need. The service caters for families needing to attend work, appointments or socialisation for their child in a mixed aged setting, from infancy through to five years of age.

Care is available Monday to Friday, including the upcoming July school holidays.

Families can book their child in for a single occasion or on a more regular basis, with spaces available for permanent term booking and casual/emergency care.

Councillor Tasa Damante said occasional care provided families with a unique service.

“The purpose of occasional care is to support families by providing flexible care options, meaning parents can access the service on an ‘as-needs’ basis,” Cr Damante said.

“As a mum of four young children, it is not always easy to plan ahead and family circumstances may change. Council’s occasional child care service makes it possible to book your child in for a minimum of three hours and maximum of seven hours, should you need to work, attend a doctor’s appointment or interview, or simply take some time out for yourself,” she said.

“The service gives parents the opportunity to take a guilt-free break from the demands of parenting. Families may also want to use occasional care as a stepping stone to long day care or preschool to help children develop social skills.

“As a parent, you can leave your child at Maroondah Occasional Care secure with the knowledge that they will be under the guidance and supervision of dedicated and qualified Early Childhood educators, with stimulating and developmentally appropriate programs designed to respond to children’s individual needs and interests,” Cr Damante said.

Maroondah Occasional Care is located at 15 Civic Square, Croydon.
