Flush with new toilets in Byron Shire

Public toilets – they’re not tourist attractions but they certainly attract a lot of attention.

In fact, in a recent survey about our public assets the community told Council it needed to do better with its public amenities.

Taking on the feedback, Council is replacing two public toilet blocks at South Golden Beach and Suffolk Park and building a new toilet at Federal.

“Work starts this week on two new, accessible, unisex public toilets at South Golden Beach, replacing the existing amenities block that has seen better days,” Phil Holloway, Director Infrastructure Services, said.

The $90,000 project will take around one month to complete.

A new amenities block will also be built at Gaggin Park at Suffolk Park.

It will be located closer to the refurbished playground and will be accessible for all members of the public.

A development application for the $132,000 project has been submitted and includes the removal of the old toilet block.  Council is aiming for this project to be finished by Christmas.

The installation of a new public toilet at Federal will start in July-August.

The $75,000 toilet, which will be located in Federal Park is close to the store, tennis court, skatepark and playground with the final location decided after consultation with local residents and businesses.

This project will also include a new path and bike stands.
