CREATIVE video content that explores the notion of ‘Liberty’ will light up Hobart’s LOOP digital art screen as part of an extended public art program supporting the inaugural Hobart Current exhibition.
Hobart filmmakers, animators and digital artists are invited to submit their work for Liberty LOOP, Films of the People – a curated video show that will run at The Loop screen in Elizabeth Street in March 2021.
Hobart Current is an innovative partnership between the City of Hobart and the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG), which nurtures and showcases contemporary artists working across varied media.
The inaugural exhibition Hobart Current: Liberty was originally scheduled to open in September 2020. However, in response to ongoing restrictions relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, the exhibition has been rescheduled for March 2021.
Through the program, ten artists were selected to develop artworks responding to the concepts of liberty and freedom, under the guidance of Creative Director Rosie Dennis.
“Although the planning and delivery for Hobart Current: Liberty has been impacted by COVID-19, creative spirits remain positive for a future looking show that grapples with contemporary notions of freedom, free speech and democracy,” Ms Dennis said.
Complementing the Hobart Current: Liberty exhibition, the City of Hobart will host a program of diverse community activities in public spaces, providing opportunities to discover and explore the notion of ‘Liberty.’ The first of these is Liberty LOOP, Films of the People.
Submissions for the Liberty Loop project are now open until 31 November 2020. For more information on the submission requirements visit hobartcurrent.com/get-involved.
