Street meet in Mogo

Stakeholder meetings to rebuild Mogo’s fire-ravaged commercial buildings are underway with planning and design consultants Brendan Hoskins and Daniel Pantelas from Ethos Urban meeting business owners last week.

With onsite parking, bushfire protection and street-front setbacks all known concerns, business owners on the western side of the highway saw the merit in moving shopfronts closer to the street – reducing development costs and improving pedestrian flow.

Eurobodalla Mayor Liz Innes said the people of Mogo were looking to their future.

“It’s great to see the village’s business community working with specialist firms and with Council to rebuild Mogo to be better than ever,” she said.

Eurobodalla Council’s strategic land use coordinator Nathan Farnell said the street-meet exceeded expectations, with Mogo’s business community throwing its support behind the project.

“The quality of the work the consultants are doing is really quite extraordinary. They’ve been reviewing the village layout and rebuilding regulations to find ways to reduce the time and cost of rebuilding,” Mr Farnell said.

“They want to help this community get through what have been incredibly hard times, using streetscape designs to demonstrate how building constraints can be better handled.”

Ethos Urban are joined by transport planning specialists Complete Streets in offering Council their expertise free of charge to support Mogo in the wake of the summer’s devastating bushfires.

Mr Farnell said two more stakeholders sessions would be held in coming months, using an online platform. In the meantime, Mr Hoskins encouraged the wider Mogo community to take part in a short online survey on the future look of the village.
