Blacktown City Council is working, with Transport for NSW, to extend the 40km/h speed limits in the Blacktown CBD area.
Over the coming weeks 40km/h signs will be installed, clearly marking that the maximum speed limit for those areas will be 40km/h at all times.
Blacktown City Mayor, Tony Bleasdale OAM said, “Driving at lower speeds improves a driver’s ability to stop quickly and react to the unexpected.”
“This creates a safer road environment for all road users, particularly vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, pedestrians and cyclists.”
New speed limit signs will be placed in the CBD sections of Main Street, Campbell Street, Flushcombe Road, Alpha Street and Kildare Road, and will also apply to the laneways in this area.
“Drivers, please look out for pedestrians, slow down and let’s keep our community safe,” Mayor Bleasdale said.
The 40km/h speed limit is enforceable and normal enforcement procedures will apply.
