Council is advocating to the State Government and Parks Victoria for the repair and safe reopening of Hampton, Black Rock and Brighton piers as soon as possible.
Parks Victoria closed the pier/jetty at Sandringham Harbour (Hampton) this week after reviewing dive inspection reports on sections of the jetty and associated pile berths which show evidence of deck slumping that may lead to extensive structure failures.
The entire jetty and associated berthing will be closed until further notice. This jetty is managed by Parks Victoria and is adjacent to Sandringham Yacht Club.
Piers in Brighton and Black Rock were also closed late last month by Parks Victoria due to safety concerns.
Bayside Mayor Cr Clarke Martin says, “We’re calling on Parks Victoria to get these piers repaired and re-opened as soon as possible.
“We have written to Ministers to advocate for an efficient process and seek assurance of the Victorian State Government that the piers will be fixed as soon as possible. It is important for stakeholders and residents alike to know how long these closures will last and get a commitment to complete the works quickly.”
Council recognises that piers play an important role in supporting recreational yachting and boating and are an important community asset for residents and visitors, and the visual identity of Bayside.
