A COVID-safe return to Council-managed facilities

Published on 18 June 2020

Gannawarra Shire Council is working with community groups and organisations that hire Council buildings and facilities regarding a COVID-safe return to programs and events at these venues.

Council ceased taking bookings for its indoor and outdoor venues in late March, enacting on Federal and State government measures implemented to stop the spread of Coronavirus.

“With a number of these measures being eased during June, many of the Gannawarra’s community groups and organisations are eager to return to using our facilities,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“Although indoor gatherings of up to 50 people may occur from 12 midnight on Monday, 22 June, Council needs to ensure the safety of the public and staff when confirming the hiring of our buildings and facilities, such as enabling appropriate social distancing and hygiene processes.”

Council will resume the hiring of its facilities using a staged timeframe, with allowance for sufficient time for cleaning between bookings to be factored in.

“Council is working with groups impacted by the closure of our facilities at this time to ensure that activities can resume at these venues in a COVID-safe manner,” Mr O’Reilly said.

Council will continue to keep residents updated regarding changes to its services at this time, including the resumption of hiring its buildings and facilities, through its website, www.gsc.vic.gov.au, and social media accounts, including Facebook (www.facebook.com/gannawarra).

“Council looks forward to welcoming the public back to these facilities once measures to protect the safety of customers and staff are effectively in place,” Mr O’Reilly said.
