Site preparation works are underway for the construction of the Cambridge Community Shed, which will be built within the Lake Monger recreation precinct in Wembley.
The removal of the old parks depot building, irrigation re-location, and tree lopping have cleared the site ready for construction which is due to commence in late July.
Cambridge Mayor Keri Shannon said the Town had been working with the Rotary Club of Cambridge to establish this important community facility.
“We are pleased to finally start to build a Community Shed in the Town of Cambridge,” she said.
“The work produced by members at the Community Shed can be a project of their own or a project that responds to a need in our local community.
“The Community Shed will expand on the successful Men’s Shed initiative and welcome everyone in the Cambridge community to benefit from the local hub.
“The Men’s Shed movement has become one of the most powerful tools in addressing health and wellbeing and helping men participate in their local community.”
The Town of Cambridge received a $200,000 grant from Lotterywest in late 2019 to contribute towards the construction of the Shed.
Council approved the construction of the facility in November 2019.
