Following the Victorian Government’s recent announcement of nearly $30 million in funding for Bayside schools, Council is currently exploring further opportunities for shared investment in sports facilities.
Sandringham College will receive $10 million from the Victorian COVID-19 Building Works Package to upgrade and modernise its Holloway Road Campus with a new gymnasium, music facilities, canteen and other amenities.
Bayside Mayor, Cr Clarke Martin said Council was currently in discussion with Sandringham College to investigate opportunities for additional sporting facilities at the Holloway Road campus.
“With the upcoming upgrades at Sandringham Secondary College, we have a fantastic opportunity for Council to co-invest in new sports facilities to benefit students as well as our wider community, he said.
The Victorian Government has also allocated $18.97 million to Beaumaris Secondary College in the Victorian COVID-19 Building Works Package to deliver the second stage of its capital works project. This will increase its capacity from 650 to 1,100 students upon completion in 2022.
“Council has been working in conjunction with both schools to advocate for the completion of facilities for some time,” Cr Martin said. “It’s great to see Council’s advocacy on behalf of our community bearing fruit for our local students as well as contributing to Victoria’s economic recovery by creating much-needed employment during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
