The Pets Away, Possums Play project is a reminder to pet owners to keep their dogs and cats contained, especially at night, to help protect our native wildlife.
Wheelie bin stickers to encourage keeping cats and dogs inside at night are now available for Geographe Bay Catchment residents wanting to pledge their commitment to helping the critically endangered Western Ringtail Possum.
Night time is the time that a lot of our precious urban native wildlife, like the endangered ringtail possums, come out to play and this is the time they are most at risk of injury and death caused by hunting and curious pets.
Domestic animals are also most at risk if roaming between dusk and dawn, from animal fights, the transmission of disease, exposure to poisons and car incidents.
The free wheelie bin stickers can be used by responsible pet owners, or non-pet owners, wishing to help foster best practice pet ownership behaviours within their street or community.
There are limited numbers available and they can be picked up from the Dalyellup and Capel libraries.
