Welcome to a new kind of golf

Forget the clubs for this form of golf which is quickly emerging as one of the most popular new sports across the world.

Disc golf now has more than 8,500 courses around the world, with the latest addition to the list, located in Black Gully Park.

Environment and Community Committee chair James O’Shea welcomed the new course, which was made possible after receiving funding through Council’s Community Grant Program.

“It’s terrific to see this course up and running and I’m sure the Toowoomba Disc Golf Club will get plenty of use from this facility,” Cr O’Shea said.

“We have such an active community in the Toowoomba Region which caters not only to the more traditional forms of recreation, but also to the new forms of sport, such as this one.

“Disc golf is played much like regular golf but instead of a ball and clubs, players throw a flying disc into a disc golf basket.

“While I’m used to playing the more traditional form of golf, it’s great to see how Council’s Community Grant Program has enabled the club to build this course and I hope it continues to gain in popularity as more people become aware of the sport and the course we have in our Region.”

The course installation was completed by the Toowoomba Disc Golf Club and is open to the public for free (residents are required to bring their own frisbee/disc).

The next round of Council’s Community Grant Program opens on 1 July with groups encouraged to speak with Council officers prior to applying for guidance around applications.
