Perry-Ling Gardens | Community Survey

The Council is currently looking at how the Perry-Ling Gardens might be managed in the future and would like the public’s input into the process.

When Max Perry and Gordon Ling started work on the garden in 1983 their focus was on removing weeds and beautifying the road/rail reserve along the foreshore at Main Road, Penguin. Today, the garden extends for nearly a kilometre. The importance of the garden as a landmark of the region is recognised by a portion of the gardens being Heritage Listed.

The Council is responsible for the care and maintenance of the garden. Due to a number of factors, it has become increasingly difficult to maintain the standard and condition of the gardens as a large portion is located within the rail and road reserve. Undertaking works can be costly and challenging, requiring additional safety measures to be put in place. The existing pedestrian accesses do not comply with current safety standards and storm water is also an issue.

Paper based Surveys will be available from the Council’s Administration Centre in Ulverstone and the Penguin Service Centre.

The Council is committed to working closely with TasRail, Crown Land Services, and Heritage Tasmania as well as the community on this project, and so will develop further opportunities for community input as the project progresses.
