Liverpool Mayor congratulates police on Council fire arrest
Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller has congratulated NSW Police Arson Unit Detectives for their tireless work investigating the 2010 fire that destroyed Council’s premises on Hoxton Park Road, culminating in the arrest of a 29-year-old man in Liverpool yesterday.
“I thank the police for never giving up on this,” Mayor Waller said. “Council has cooperated with Police when requested over many years and I am encouraged their work has led to an arrest.
“I am aware that detectives have released a COMFIT image (see below) of another man aged in his early 20s seen in the area at the time of the fire and who may be able to assist with inquiries.
“We are happy to share that, but given the investigation is continuing, I would make no further comment beyond urging anyone with further information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
“We have gone from strength to strength as an organisation since the fire, but this remains a point of sensitivity for past and current staff members.
“Plans are well advanced for new Council premises in Scott St Liverpool. This will be a great public facility that will have an important role in the healing process for the organisation.”
