Online borrowing proves popular MEDIA RELEASE

Residents have turned increasingly to online borrowing with Cairns Libraries reporting a marked increase in the use of digital resources.

Digital resource figures for May 2020 compared to the same period last year revealed a 54 per cent increase in eBook and eAudio book loans through the Borrow Box App, and a 106 per cent increase in digital loans via the RBDigital App.

There was also a 15 per cent increase for the burrowing of eMagazines and 260 per cent increase in eMovies loans.

Cairns Libraries also reported more than 15,300 visit across its eight branches from 1-14 June.

Earlville Library reported the most visitation (3015) with a total of 5205 loans, while Smithfield Library had the most loans (7281) from a total of 2589 visits.

Cairns Libraries are starting a campaign to encourage the community to return more than 8000 overdue library books.
