Council is seeking $605,000 in Federal Government funding to upgrade the Upward Street / Draper Street intersection.

The funding application is being made under the Black Spot Program, which provides for improvements on the road network to areas identified as potentially dangerous.

A report to Council revealed the Upward Street / Draper Street intersection had seven recorded crashes between the 2014/15 and 2018/19 financial years, two involving bicycles.

Council is proposing to upgrade the four-way intersection to a roundabout, which includes the usual line marking and provisions for cyclists and a lighting upgrade to improve safety for all users.

Council was recently advised that of the four projects nominated for upgrades next financial year, the Sheridan Street / Aplin Street intersection upgrade and the Digger Street / McKenzie Street intersection upgrade have been approved.
