Appin’s highly anticipated skate park, the first Western Sydney City Deal Liveability funded project to be completed, has been embraced by the community and celebrated by Federal, State and Local Governments with the easing of Covid-19 restrictions. The facility was officially opened today by The Hon. Angus Taylor MP, Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction, Member for Hume, The Hon. Stuart Ayres, MP, Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, Member for Wollondilly Nat Smith and Cr Matthew Deeth, Mayor of Wollondilly. Wollondilly Council worked with the skate park experts at Convic to help with the design, consultation and construction of the facility, while community members were involved in developing the draft design. Member for Hume Angus Taylor said recreational facilities such as this are critical to making the Western Parkland City a great place to live and work. “We’ve always known parks and recreational spaces are critical to making a great place to live and now with locals able to enjoy the outdoors more after restrictions, these projects are coming at the right time.” Member for Wollondilly Nat Smith said, “I am pleased to see that the Appin Skate Park in Wollondilly was completed during Covid-19 restrictions, as the demand for these projects is high in the local communities.” “This is one of a number of exciting projects to promote healthy living and improve quality of life for the community under the Western Parkland City Liveability Program, part of the Western Sydney City Deal,” Mr Smith said. Mayor Matthew Deeth said, “We are grateful for funding that was able to bring this local project to life.”
“It is an exciting project not only for the youth of Appin but for the whole of the Shire, making Wollondilly an even better place to live, learn, work and play.” The total cost of the Appin Skate Facility was $915,000 with approximately $730,000 funded by the Liveability program.
