A group of local Bushcare workers were delighted by the recent visit of Costa Georgiadis from ABC’s Gardening Australia.

The workers are part of an employment program called Bushlink, providing meaningful work for people with disability.

Run by Northside Enterprise they work on environmental projects for clubs, National Parks, commercial gardens as well as supporting Council’s Bushcare sites.

Costa joined the workers in the dunes at Dee Why Beach, where they are enhancing the area with native plants that help stabilise the dunes.

The celebrity gardener and the team shared practical tips and advice while being filmed for a segment that will be aired on the ABC this week.

Diane McLane, Manager of Bushlink said ‘the program helped workers feel empowered by holding down a real job.

“The work generates a high degree of pride and a sense of self-worth among participants. As a result, our employees have a fantastic work ethic and high attendance rate.

Additionally, we are pleased to be able to support the work that Council does in restoring our natural bush habitats.

The segment is on ABC Gardening Australia on Friday, 26 June at 7.30pm and repeated on Sunday 28 June, 1.30pm.
